Tribute to Lady Thatcher

Last night, when I was going upstairs to bed, I happened to think of Margaret Thatcher and wondered if she was still alive.  I'm not at all sure why I thought on this, but this morning awoke to hear she had died.  (NPR couldn't help itself but make a critic the first person they interviewed in their story on her.)

Margaret Thatcher did a great deal of good in the promotion of liberty, and also was a quite eloquent and confident speaker on its behalf.  I happened this evening to see the Heritage Foundation video tribute to her, and enjoyed it enough that I'm reposting it below.

I'm sure there are libertoonists who don't like her at all because she was conservative rather than libertarian, and certainly there were things she did I disagreed with.  But just as certainly she was a champion of free markets, limited government and fierce enemy of socialism.  She was a friend of freedom.

Comments:
After your "libertoonist" comment, I immediately went to lewrockwell.com to see if they had anything to say about Lady Thatcher.

This is all I found:

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with loathing Margaret Thatcher or any other person with political influence and power based upon perceived bad acts, and that doesn't change simply because they die. If anything, it becomes more compelling to commemorate those bad acts upon death as the only antidote against a society erecting a false and jingoistically self-serving history."

Again, that's the ONLY mention of her death. Osama bin Laden, upon his demise, received better remarks from the commentators on that stupid website.

Thanks. Apparently Lew Rockwell believes that privatization of socialist state enterprises, liberating the people of the Falklands after the invasion by the brutal Argentine military dictatorship, and opposition to the USSR are "bad acts" and "jingoistically self-serving..."

The amount of sympathy these pseudo-libertarians still harbor for Marxism and other forms of socialism is astounding.
